Exterior Lights On Reminder

Just a reminder for residents who may not be aware that exterior lighting must be on during non-daylight hours. Most homes have a light switch in the garage which controls these exterior lights on the outside of your home. These lights are controlled on a daylight sensor so there is no need to ever turn off the switch in the garage.

This information can be found in the Supplemental Design Guidelines excerpt #4 below:

Exterior Maintenance. The exterior of a home and lot must be maintained in an attractive manner.

  1. No significant blistering or peeling of exterior painted surfaces is permitted.
  2. Any exterior building components (i.e., siding, gutters and downspouts, roof shingles, windows and doors), which are missing, stained, broken or otherwise in a state of disrepair, must be repaired as quickly as possible.
  3. Hoses should be rolled up on a reel or hidden from view when not in use.
  4. Because exterior lights and lamps assist in community appearance and safety, they shall not be removed or turned off during hours of darkness; they shall be maintained in good working order. Burnt-out bulbs shall be promptly replaced. The primary front exterior light(s) (either the garage-mounted carriage lights or the post-mounted yard light) shall be connected to a daylight sensor.
  5. Decks, Screened Porches, Patio, Fences, Arbors and Pergolas must be Just a maintained in good condition at all times.

Today Marks the 155th Anniversary of the Battle of Cockpit Point at Potomac Shores

Many Potomac Shores residents may not know that our community was once the site of a Civil War battle that took place 155 years ago today on January 3, 1862. For further information on the Battle of Cockpit Point and the history of our beautiful Cherry Hill peninsula in a timeline format, check out the Resident Information page on this site.

Many of us in the community are excited to be working closely with our SunCal developers alongside the Prince William County Historic Preservation Department on the preservation, maintenance and eventual access to the site so more can learn and experience this battle and its role in the Potomac Blockade Campaign early in the Civil War. It’s part of our community and that’s a pretty cool thing we all should appreciate. For those interested in helping to further promote this history and this effort, send me a message. We’d love to have your interest and help.
